Happy 7th Anniversary, Peppershock!

By October 19, 2010blog

The story starts back in 2003 when Drew and I were working hard on our dream of owning and running a video production company. After living in West Seattle for a couple of years, we got married and moved back home, bringing big city experiences with us to the Treasure Valley. By that time, I had earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Mass Communication and my Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. Drew had graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle, a private, high ranking art school, having majored in video production and design. With the right education, motivation and tools, the process of developing our business began.

Logo design, registration with the Secretary of State, the business plan, the projections, menu of services and the late night discussions were all integral pieces to the inception and creation of Peppershock Media. The doors were officially opened in October of 2003. Drew and I would not have been able to endure the process without the passion for this business, which is still very much alive today!

Six months after completing the process, I quit my full time job where I was making the most I ever had. Drew put his nose to the grindstone, working an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift at his full time job. He then worked from 6 p.m. to midnight (or later) to ensure Peppershock projects were completed on-time. Then, the day came when a direct conflict of interest hit us, unsuspectingly. It was time and a sure sign that our own sole proprietorship would have to fully support us.

Our first child was born in 2005.  By this time, we had a part-time assistant who was a friend and didn’t mind working in our home with us and the baby around. Emerson didn’t go to daycare at all for one year. We were located in a small satellite office on Overland Road but soon discovered the commute and video file transfer rate wasn’t proving to be successful. In 2007, we purchased what used to be a bed and breakfast that became our home and office. Peppershock continued to grow, adding a full time receptionist, a graphic designer and a second video producer. Our family also continued to grow when we had our second child, Kaden, in December of 2007. As our business and family grew, we made adjustments by living upstairs and continuing business downstairs.  Then on March 21st 2007, my birthday, we closed on a new home in Nampa. My current office is now where our master bedroom used to be! And here we grow again! No, Drew and I don’t currently plan to keep trying for a girl, our two boys are plenty!

Today, we currently have eight dedicated crew members at Peppershock. This dedication and passion is very instrumental in our successes at Peppershock. We are still running successfully on bold coffee and passion and look forward to more growth spurts! Here’s a fact about Peppershock that you may not know. The naming of our business (Peppershock) came from my maiden name, Peppersack. Growing up with such an unusual name, it became a part of my identity that nobody forgot. Peppershock has proven to be just as unforgettable. (And yes, I have met Ray Allen – former Seattle Sonic – when I was at the Fox affiliate, a top 12 market, directing Q-it up Sports.)
