Is Your Business Becoming Invisible?

intro graphic

“Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing, but nobody else does.”
– Stuart Henderson Britt, advertising consultant
2009 has been a rough year financially for businesses big and small. Budgets have been cut and for a lot of businesses this cut lies in advertising. This is not only a misguided attempt to save money; it may just cost you. Decreasing your advertising when money is tight also decreases your brand awareness in consumer’s minds. After a period of not advertising, the consumers will forget about your services or product. It will be like your business never existed at all. Peppershock has packed some great ideas into this newsletter that will help your business avoid slipping into obscurity. Allow us to give you the advantage over the rest.

Spicin’ Up Business Communications: Peppershock Copywriting Services

Written by Craig Hilpert

I had just recently started working with Peppershock again in support of the [new copywriting service] when, one night at home, I decided to sit down and read Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery. This particular print of The Seven Dials Mystery was from the early ‘70’s, riddled with spelling errors and quite poorly punctuated- the periodic errors nearly ruined my entire reading experience. It seemed incredible to me that such commonplace errors could so thoroughly ruin on otherwise great mystery. And this was how the importance of our new service was made sharply and suddenly relevant.

Although poor copywriting is a nagging problem for a novel, it is certain doom for a business document: whether addressing a prospective or current client, a dear constituent, or a business peer, you can’t communicate your information while your reader becomes distracted by misspelled words and strange sentences. For this reason, spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors are the most common but most critical problems. Even, or perhaps especially in the rush-rush world of business, one must find the time, or the reliable copywriter, to make sure that every written word you put before your clients eyes must be absolutely flawless.

Identifying and fixing errors like these are the first and most basic task of a good copywriter, but the duty of the copywriter goes beyond merely correct syntax. The impact of the written word depends on finesse and style of the writer, an axiom exceptionally true in the business world where jargon and sterile language run rampant. Whether you’re delivering bad news, submitting a proposal for a new project, or addressing changes to your business model, the information becomes more palatable to the reader if it carries the voice of it’s author. A consistent and unified voice, diction, and style contribute to highly-effective communication and mutual confidence between the businessperson and the client.

Working in the capacity of a Peppershock copywriter I look forward to the challenge of fusing the finesse and intrigue of a creative writer with the implacable precision of the technical writer to produce uniquely vibrant, organically memorable business missives.
