President’s Letter March 2016

Rhea Allen, Founder|CEO “If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.”
– Thomas Edison

Our March started off with a bang as Peppershock took the cake and was awarded first-place for our documentary Idaho Wine: From Bud To Taste Bud. Peppershock was also singled out for photography and title design work in the same piece. The event was judged by our fellow peers outside of Idaho, program selectors for film festivals across the country. Host Lance Thompson explained to the crowd of about 50 media professionals, “We wanted to make sure there were no local biases, so we enlisted the help of industry experts around the country to help with the judging, and they were impressed with your work.”

We had some very tough but welcomed contenders. Another film finalist in the documentary category was “Girl from God’s Country” by the lovely and talented Ms. Karen Day. Her documentary used archival material to look at pioneering silent filmmaker Nell shipman. A very worthy film to watch and one that Peppershock was proud to help edit and support!

Developing a clear vision and strategy is crucial for helping people understand the excellent service or product that you offer. We are happy to be helping several new clients do just that. As always, we aim to support the community, which is why we are particularly thrilled to be helping the Nampa School District. After a financial crisis a few years ago, they have decided to hire us to look into the public perception of the district and help them rebrand and refresh their image. We are pleased to offer our services for this community project at less than half the rate of most agencies as a community partner.

Speaking of school, we are also teaming up with Idaho Professional-Technical Education to effectively communicate their new badge system, SkillStack. Much like online games, SkillStack will reward badges based on skill levels achieved. In schools, it will track students’ learning outcomes as industry-relevant badges and encourage them to take their skills to the next level. SkillStack will also be a tool that transfers to the workplace. Individuals will be able to create a badge portfolio and employers will be able to use those badges to search for candidates when recruiting.

And lastly, take Edison’s advice and astonish yourself this month by doing all those things you are capable of!
